Classroom Programs


The following presentations are offered to academic classrooms, Resident Advisors/Managers, student organizations, or any interested party.  All presentations are roughly 1 hour in length and presented by the Assistant Director for Sexual/Gender Diversity in the Multicultural Resource Center.

Presentations Focusing on the GLBTQ Population:
  • GLBQ 101: Being “Gay Friendly” in a “Not-So-Gay-Friendly World”
    This presentation covers the basic information of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Questioning/Queer population including terminology, GLB development theory, and the coming out process.  This presentation is a great way to jump start a conversation about this population. This presentation is recommended for students, faculty, or staff who need or want some basic information about the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, or Questioning/Queer population.
  • Spreading the “T”: The Transgender Community
     This presentation specifically addresses the Transgender Community including Transgenderists, Transgender People, Transsexuals, Transvestites, and Hermaphrodites/Innersex Individuals. This is a great presentation for faculty and staff interested in how to serve this population or who have basic questions about what it means to be “Transgender.”     **Please note that it is recommended that participants complete “GLBQ 101: Being ‘Gay Friendly’ in a ‘Not-So-Gay Friendly World” prior to attending this presentation. 

Presentations Focusing on Gender Differences:

  • Gender in a Box
    This is a very basic, fun, and interactive presentation that focuses on the stereotypes placed on men and women.  The presentation also covers the impact of these stereotypes and the power of “name calling.”  The purpose of this presentation is to spark discussion about Gender and Gender as a Social Construct.
  • Power & Control: The Truth about Sexual Assault
     The purpose of this presentation is to briefly discuss Sexual Assault on a college campus.  The presentation covers Sexual Assault, Drug Facilitated Crime, Stranger & Acquaintance Assault, Risk Reduction Tips, and How to Help a Friend.  This is a great presentation for Greek organizations, student organizations, women’s & men’s groups, and Freshman Seminar.
  • Healthy Relationships
     The purpose of this presentation is have a discussion about what it means to be in a “healthy relationship.”  These “relationships” can be intimate (boyfriend/partner/girlfriend), familial (mother/father/son/sister/etc) or friendships; but the basics are all the same.  This presentation features an interactive activity to get students perspectives.  Finally this presentation covers unhealthy relationships and the Cycle of Violence as it pertains to violent relationships.
