Reflective of the nature and purpose of the Division of Student Affairs, the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) seeks to:
- Promote individual student learning and development - The MRC offers on-going education and training exploring the many facets of diversity and human relations. The Center also offers a host of multicultural programs providing expanding learning opportunities for students while honoring the unique diversity present at UNCC and the Charlotte community.
- Provide student services – The MRC is available to assist students individually in their own explorations of themselves and/or others as well as to assist student organizations in their operations and programming efforts. The Center works closely and collaboratively with other service areas to assure consistent and thorough support for all students that seek it.
- Foster a campus community which promotes student involvement – As an ever dynamic unit of the Department of Student Activities, the MRC provides support to 40+ multicultural student organizations as well as support for student/student organizational efforts that support the mission and purpose of the Center. Students have the opportunities through a number of the Center’s efforts to plan, implement, volunteer, and actively participate.
- Develop human and facility resources – The MRC houses two student affairs staff, an administrative professional, two graduate assistants, and student employees that are all committed to serving the UNCC community. The Center provides a resource area bearing information regarding sources of both university and community support; a resource library containing reference books and video media (VHS/DVD) that cover a variety of topics; an assortment of multicultural publications (magazines, newspapers & newsletters); and two computer workstation with printing access.
