| The Nila and Stokely Bailey PFLAG Scholarship | The Parents & Friends of Lesbians And Gays is a national organization with several community based sub organizations. The Charlotte based PFLAG group has an Endowment Fund created in March 1995 in memory of Gary Bailey who died of AIDS-related complications. The Scholarship is awarded annually and is available to any student who meets the following criteria: -A Full-Time UNC-Charlotte Student in good academic standing -Identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual or have expressed interest and investment in the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community -Have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) How to Apply: Submit a 1-2 page essay including brief biographical information, noting your involvements, and also detailing your interest in the scholarship. A title page should also be included.
Click here to download more information. | | | | Curtis E. Johnson Memorial Scholarship | This scholarship was established in honor of Curtis E. Johnson who passed away in May 2004. Curtis was an outgoing, extraverted student who was a friend to many and dedicated to providing leadership on campus. Curtis was well connected in the university community, well known to students, staff and faculty alike. He was known for his humor and warmth but in particular his wide range of friends. Curtis was a supporter and advocate for inclusion of all people, regardless of their race, gender, sexual or gender orientation, religion, ability, socio-economic class, or other difference. This scholarship seeks to honor his memory by recognizing individuals who exhibit these qualities of Curtis.
Criteria:
- Participation in or currently participating in one or more of the following student leadership roles at UNC Charlotte: Leadership Fellows, Resident Assistant, Student Court, Conference Assistant, active membership in PRIDE. (These roles reflect Curtis’s leadership on campus.)
- Completion of at least 60 hours of coursework at the time of application.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and enrolled for undergraduate classes in the fall semester following the award of the scholarship.
- Good standing with the university.

| The Neil & Time Scholarship Fund of Time Out Youth was established in 2007 to provide financial support and encouragement to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) youth who are seeking to earn a two-year or a four-year undergraduate degree in the field of their choice.
APPLICATION CHECKLIST The Time Out Youth Griffin Scholarship application includes all of the following materials. Check off each item when completed, and if possible, submit together in one envelope. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE REVIEWED.
- A completed application form
- An official transcript(s) of grades for the applicant’s most recently completed coursework (This may include high school transcripts, GED score report or postsecondary transcripts)
- Two recommendation forms from non-related adults such as instructors or other campus administrators, employers, mentors, etc.
- An up-to-date, typed resume
- A one-to-two page typed personal statement expressing why the applicant is applying for the scholarship and the applicant’s educational and career goals.
- A copy of the applicant’s completed Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- A copy of the applicant’s federal tax return for the preceding year showing dependents and adjusted gross income.
